When upgrading springs, you should always change the retainers also. Aftermarket springs are obviously stronger, and when used with bigger cams (higher lift, longer duration), weeker retainers are liable to actually let go. I have seen stock retainers, and even a set of crowers with the middle still hanging on to the valve stem, while the outer part of the retainer was gone.
