I guess I should jump in this for shits n giggles. I can confirm a couple things Justin said, as the original design by Yamaha of Japan had an output of just over 300hp to the flywheel due to a much better exhaust setup. The engine is capable of doing 13,000 rpm but sustained 10,000 rpm for several days without damage. Ford didnt contact Yamaha back in 1985 to make an engine for them, as the SHO didnt even make a debut till 1989. The DOHC 24V setup was ahead of its time back in the mid 80's, with intake runners that allow for better air flow and secondaries to open up at 4000rpm. Thats when all hell breaks loose. In 1993, an automatic trans was first offered which eats up more horsepower and adds weight so Yamaha designed a larger 3.2 displacement. Both Justin and I have that. Power specs are 220hp, 215lbs ft of torque. Mines got a few power adders so I dynoed 249 at the fly at Abacus. Thats 199 to the wheels.
