I See alot of things happening in the auto industry...

Detroit...
Ford and Dodge have a good in into the sport compact scene. Chevy however has been a little slow to react, with the Cavy/Sunfire aftermarket. They're just coming out with a GM performance parts supercharger system. Ford however has done well with the Focus. The SVT is a very good bargain for under 18grand. This is a good ammount of performance for the price, and has a burgeoining aftermarket. Dodge seems to have hit the nail on the head with the SRT-4. However they must overcome the shadow of the Neon to be truly sucessful. I see forced induction becoming more prevalent in domestics. I also see the possibility of a new sport compact class emerging. This would pick up where the Ford Probe and Dodge Daytona left off. A small bodied car, designed for some performance but still maintaning fuel economy and some carrying capacity. This could be powered by a small blown V-6 or a intercooled turbo 4. possibly an I-6. I see domestics trying to overcome their chintzy reputation...

Japan...
Japan has lost much of their performance niche. With the loss of the FD, Supra and 300ZX their performance market took a serious hit. However the reemergence of the RX-8 and the 350Z there is hope. The S-2000 is too expensive to ever have a very good hold on the import scene. Toyota seems to have abandoned their performance history. A new performance platform is neede to take the responsibility off of the lackluster Celica. I see Nissan and Mazda as two of the major forces in the performance econobox market. Between Mazdaspeeds extensive support and Nissan's willingness to interact with aftermarket tuners i see them moving into the head of the pack. Mitsubishi's EVO VII (8 to the rest of the world) is a serious contender in the upper scale market right now dominated by Subaru's WRX. I see Japan finally upping the displacement of their engines yet retaining a strict engine management and effiency in order to keep fuel economy up. I don't see much use of superchargers in japan, althought i see the aftermakret for them increasing signifigantly. I see weight staying the same as saftey features are used in conjunction with lighter weight chassis.

Europe...
I see europe as leading the world in automotive technology. Look no further than the M-5, S60R, S4 or E 55 AMG. High prices will keep the european car from becoming the mainstay here in the states though. I see european cars getting more and more efficent (R32) and handeling even better (S60R). I see them continuing along this track, and i see them being the first to implement fuel cells on a broad scale. Go Euro!
