Default Re: Nissan Skyline

besides being made a purpose built race car from the ground up, dominating every form of racing that will still allow it to compete in, having the most advanced all wheel drive system, a block that can shrug off 700+hp with no modification, having virtually every japanese aftermarket company making parts for it, its not a special car at all.

"...merely raising the limits of usable adhesion wasn't enough for Nissan. It had to have a purpose, a way to convincingly show the world just how much faster its precious GT-R had become. And what better place to prove themselves than on the famed Nurburgring circuit in Germany? The lap time the firm set out to achieve, though, seemed virtually impossible - could the GT-R become the first production car to cover the circuit's 22kms in under eight minutes?

The 1989 Skyline GT-R had crawled around in eight minutes 20 seconds, and the Porsche 911 Turbo and Honda NSX-R could each only manage eight minutes six. The new GT-R's aim even made the Germans smile. It could never be done. But they did it. Seven minutes 59.78 seconds. A truly spectacular achievement, putting the '95 GT-R into the history books and making it the car every manufacturer will have to beat.

Nissan went for broke and left Germany with a legendary lap time. The elusive eight-minute barrier is no more. In taming the mighty Nurburgring, the GT-R has redefined the concept of cornering. Again."

and this is for the R33.... The R34 sports a more advanced awd system, a chasis thats 50% stiffer, its rb26 produces more torque, and it tops everything off with revised aerodynamics resulting in better high speed manners.

"Nissan has confirmed that during recent tests at the 12.9-mile N?rburgring circuit, the R34 has lapped quicker than the previous production car record set by the old Skyline GT-R, but because they weren't going for a record, an official time has yet to be released. Rumour has it that the new car may already be up to 10secs a lap faster... "

If the new incarnation can live up to its namesake i say start saving cause 70k is a bargain for this level of performance.
