I have built both and what you are saying is completely and utterly false. They share nothing in build assembly other than replacing the lifters, which is barely related because of the retainers the LS1 uses. I surely would not use a small block Chevy rebuild manual to build an LS1.
The comment about shop kills me, this coming from the same guy who canot figure out how to get around tech at the track because of a blowdown tube. Not to mention your lack of ability to even run one without cutting.
