SCCA does allow rank novices into their licensing schools. Perhaps that's part of why so many cars get destroyed at those events? Classroom and observation are good, but nothing works better than good old fashioned in-car instruction.
The walls are a LOT closer on Shenandoah than those on the main track. Remember how the chute (T4) on the main track was before they widened it a few years ago? That's pretty much how the entire Shenandoah Circuit is... in terms of distance to hard objects at least. It's slower, but twistier and much more technical. It's a very fun track for sure, but I would consider it worse for novices because it's not as easy to get away with mistakes there.
I have plenty of pics and in-car video of the place if anyone would like to see it. Or come to the NASA event there on April 1-2 and I'll take you for a ride.
