Here is a quick snippet from the FSM;
POWER TRANSISTOR
NOTE
An analog-type circuit tester should be used.
Power transistor for coil for No. 1 and No. 4 cylinders
(1) Connect the negative (-) terminal of the 1.5V power supply
to terminal 3 of the power transistor; then check whether
there is continuity between terminal 7 and terminal 3
when terminal 6 and the positive (+) terminal are
connected and disconnected.
NOTE
Connect the negative (-) probe of the tester to terminal 7
of the power transistor.
Power transistor for coil for No. 2 and No. 4 cylinders
(1) Connect the negative (-) terminal of the 1.5V power supply
to terminal 3 of the power transistor; then check whether
there is continuity between terminal 1 and terminal 3
when terminal 2 and the positive (+) terminal are
connected and disconnected.
NOTE
Connect the negative (-) probe of the tester to terminal 1
of the power transistor.
If the results of the tests are not as shown above, replace
the power transistor(s).
If you don't have access to a FSM, pick up a Haynes or a Chiltons. They're not as accurate, but they will get you on the right path.
If the cam sensor is bad, the car will not run, or will run extremely rough.. Your symptoms point to the coil or the transistor.
