Because it takes alot of modding for a little economy car to beat a stock V8. Put the same efforts into the V8, and the 4cyl shouldn't stand a chance.

There ya go! Get an old 240 or 280Z, motor swap plus turbo, and you'll have a fast ass nostalgic vehicle for $3-5K. A bit more money for body restoration and you can show it too!
