I have been told conflicting things over at the forums of VWVortex.com about the the gate itself, it's operation and what I get from the GIAC 'chip' (why the fuck do they call an ECU re-flashing a 'chip', or say things like, "my shit is chipped" ???)

I'm suprised that there isn't an answer in the 1.8t forum on vwvortex. There are quite a few guys over there that know a lot.
And the reason it's called a chip is that they haven't always reflashed the ECU. They used to actually put a new chip in the ecu that had the new maps loaded to it.
