Actually, you are dead wrong. VTEC is designed to make the most power everywhere, not to be gas economical. If you only had the vtec lobe profile, you would have LESS power down low, and if you only had the off vtec profile, you would lose a lot of power at the top end. That's why people who tune their cars for maximum performance still have a vtec crossover point. If what you said was true, they would trick the car into using the vtec profile all the time, but you are wrong.
