the wheel nut was attributed to a mechanical failure of the wheel locking device. it was a mechanical failure, not human error.
the MSC/DLR/ROS incidents were all for position. MSC is not obligated to concede the position by any stretch of the imagination and broke no rules. He did however pay a price, as his retirement was a result of a track rod failure due to contact with ROS. he did not come in for drys because it would have dropped him as low as 6th, and they took the risk that they could hold 4th...He did not win 7 WDC by letting people by and making conservative decisions.

I haven't seen the race yet so you have me confused.... You said his retirement was a result of track rod failure, but it appears he didn't retire at all. He may have had an unschedualed pitstop, but as far as I can see he finished 9th and was moved to 8th as a result of a disqualification.
