he was out for points. every position is a point and had he not stuffed the car, he would have placed 4th, which is better then 6th if he gets tires. Even a pitstop is a risk as shown by the wheel nut issue.
The wording of the regs is that you cannot cut chicanes to gain position. Both times he cut the chicane, you can see him slow back down to let dlr catch back up. He did the same thing at monaco a few years ago. He cut the chicane to get by someone two lap in a row, then let them back by untill he could get by without cutting the chicane.

If the incident was being investigated, it woud have been announced yesterday. is was not, so it is considered a non-issue.

It was a retirement. He did however get classified becausehe still completed more distance the some drivers who did get the flag
