I know you are looking at a LS2 GTO, but have you looked at a C5 vette. They can be had for pretty cheap. Slap a KB on it and go cobra hunting, much lighter platform. Also great for autocrossing. GL with whatever you choose
If he was looking for something to just autocross and street race that would be a great platform, but I think he said DD which would mean work, friends, long trips.. 2 seater vetter wouldn't exactly be "prime" choice for DD.. I'd get one tho for what you mentioned.. No doubt about that..
