I went to the show last night. I didn't really think anybody else would actually be into going from here. Now, onto my review of the evening ...
Thomas Dolby - I had never heard of him. No clue who he was. Finding out he's the guy that wrote "She Blinded Me With Science" was great, especially since Mythbusters is one of my favorite shows.

So, to find out he 'did the theme song' was great. I also liked the little stories that he'd tell in between the songs. He really got the crowd involved. I liked the fact that he told us where he came from. As for the music, I thought it was really good. The vocals did kind of suck, as you couldn't hear them too well, but the actual music was good. I'm going to probably pick up that CD of his live set, I thought it was that good.
BT - Okay. This is where I get pissed and disappointed. I'm a big fan of BT. ECSM was a good CD. I'm totally in love with Movement in Still Life. Such a great CD. A little bit of dance and chill music, all at the same time. I honestly think it's his best work. So, when he came out and said that he was basically just going to re-create This Binary Universe, my heart kind of sank. Don't get me wrong - it's a really good CD, but that's not what I came for. I enjoyed the songs that he played, especially the last one from the CD, I guess the one dedicated to his daughter. That song was awesome. But, the whole thing was like a really loud lullaby. I was sitting at a table in the back and was finding myself falling asleep. And some of the songs didn't really mix well. He went from a real solemn beat and then tried to make it sort of dancey or whatever and then back to solemn again. They just didn't flow that great. It was nice to actually hear it in 5.1 sound though. The bass damn near blew my clothes off.

Then he came out with a cover of Gary Jules "Mad World" from the Donny Darko soundtrack. For only playing it a few times, they did a good job. I like how they actually made it harder. Then he closed with "Satellite". Undoubtedly my most favorite BT song, evAr. I honestly think he butchered it all to hell. Totally ruined my night.
Okay. So that's my review of the show. While BTs music was good, it wasn't what I came to hear. Sure, playing a few tracks from the new CD would be great. But also cover some of the older, more familiar stuff.
