Default Car dying while running

1989 Honda CRX. 1.5l SOHC dual point.

Just got this car earlier today. The guy told me it won't start but the battery and alternator are fine, someone else checked them. So I get there and jump the car and it starts right up and runs great. He told me that since he's had it he would drive it for like 30 minutes and then it would just die, and that if you waited a little bit it would start back up.

Well I take it around the block for about 5 minutes or so and it runs great, no missing or anything. We get it back to his house and I'm walking around the car checking things out then around 5 minutes after sitting there it just shuts off. No stumbling, surging or anything, just died. Afterwards I waited to start it and nothing, just a click when I turn the key. Then I jump it and it starts up fine.

Now, I've kinda came to the conclusion that it's not a mechanical problem, nothing is out of place, no funny noises. The alternator looks brand new, but new parts can be defective. I didn't have a multimeter so therefore I couldn't check for a constant voltage at the battery to make sure it's staying charged. I'll be checking all that tomorrow once I get time. But untill then, does anyone else have a clue whats going on? A friend of mine had the same problem on a stock hatch and was being caused by the main relay.

Thanks in advance,
Jake
