You're high. Even a buffoon (read: AIRMAN) can field strip a 1911 without any instruction. It's HIGHLY arguable that it's even easier, much less
vastly easier.
And, for the record, the Marine Corps was vehemently opposed to the M9 and has been trying to go back to a .45 since it's adoption. The Air Force, however, was delighted, since the 9mm round wasn't so hard on their delicate little hands.
