Sup peps. I was born and raised in NYC. The friends I made in the navy either came from north east or cali so we are not use to seeing the confederate flag all the time except in history books and kkk demonstrations. All of us white, black, asian, whatever all belive that the confederate flag is just as offensive as the nazi flag, it's like saying that the nazi flag just represented a political party and not a hate group. The kkk use to fly the confederate flag, and that's what comes to our minds when we see that flag. You talk to my grandparents who come from the south and they all agree what that flag represents oppression of a people, the south rallied behind that flag to preserve their way of life, which depended on the enslavement of my ancestors. In our book there is no way to justify that, please find another way to express your southern pride other than clinging to a symbol of oppression.
Lates.
What you think the meaning of the flag is and what the real meaning is are two different things. If you are offended by the flag thats too bad, Im offended by my neighborhood being run down by crime/thugs, tough shit. Everyone is offended by something, should we take away all the things that offend people?! Its called freedom of expression, even if you dont like my view. I am supposed to be more tolerant of other cultures yet my own isnt tolerated?! It goes both ways....You said it best you come from NYC so you dont even know what its all about other than biased textbooks and hearsay. Neither of which are accurate.
