Probably the #1 killer for most even if the engine is built properly. Dave really couldn't have said it any better, as well as HondaRules.

If at the very least a dial indicator, micrometer (atleast 3 of them), etc. at a -minimum- are not on your bench, building an engine yourself shouldn't be an option. My opinion though and apparently that of others that have built a quantity of engines worth while of referring themselves to builders/machinests.
