JOEY
joey if u want my previous business plan/outline let me know. We basically determined you really couldnt open a decent shop (if you're selling performance parts and doing small mechanical installs like oil, gauges, electronics, tbelts, etc) for less than around 100k in start up money (meaning for inventory, shop, equipment [didnt include dyno], laborers, rent, bills, etc. Plus you have to keep in mind that you will lose money for the first few months so you have to have capital in reserve to cover you monthly "nut" if your business isnt generating enough to cover it.
I had previously had commitments of $100k in cash and another $100k in cash equivilents (website design, building, equipment) plus i was to put in $20k in cash and work it full time....which of course means a minimum of 12hour days for probably the first year at least. We were getting ready to draw up the contract and 1 of the 2 main investors backed out (lets just say the guy owns some dealerships around here) for unknown reasons.

I really didnt want to open in sal/roa because i thought i could do better w/ the college town and that more people from Roa would drive down here for a good shop vs more people from here driving to roa. This was a big issue for the investor who backed out cuz he had a few locations in sal/roa he could use w/o it costing him additional money. And yes, dealing w/ ricers will be a huge part of your business and its something you'll have to swallow your pride on. I realized they would probably be the "bread and butter" of the business and you'll have to treat them as such. But at the same time you can also be the one how "educates"them of their wrong doings

Hit me up if you want my input and help, the other trick to think about is you need some MAJOR connections to get good deep discounted prices for performance parts. Companies like Keystone, Autofx, Nopi, etc all require either some kind of past experience or a very large up front account.

Best of luck in what you choose bro - u know i wish you well, i decided after the 1 guy backed out that i really didnt want to get booged down 12+hrs a day on something that would probably take me a minimum of 3yrs to establish and make potentially much less than i do now.

(but dont forget i can also drive some unreal sales to an online shop....that was going to be 1 of the secrets of our $ for my idea).
