If it's in Connecticut, you may want to consider flying one-way then searching around for rental places needing vehicles transported from one location to another. I found my little brother a minivan from Maryland to Florida through Avis much about half the price of any other vehicle on the lot. He needed to take his gf's dog (and her) to Florida then the two of them flew back... flight was cheaper than fuel + one night for a hotel.
I'm going to take a straight trip there and back no matter what. I'll probably have to leave 7PM at night, and arrive back at Richmond sometime around 9AM to avoid traffic. If I get some sort of econo-box, gas shouldn't be too bad either. Also if Avis offers a minivan around here, I might be able to take out the back seats and definitely have enough room. They are 4 cyl right? They should get pretty good mileage.. And would any rental agency have cars that need to be transported? Do they offer some sort of discount, or how would that work?
