The whole point of offering money as a reward for a crime is to set a trap of some sort. Either to have a friend that the offender has bragged to get greedy and turn him/her in, or the actual offender thinking he can get away with getting the reward somehow. It doesnt matter who comes forward if the end result (finding out who committed the crime) gets solved.

9 times out of 10 a friend of a friend of a friend of the offender was leaked the story and will find out that they can make some free/quick/easy money by just pointing a finger and will do it. Many times the story has been twisted and its a false lead, sometimes its 100% accurate and the person is caught. But at least Patrick is trying, he is obviously determined to find out who did this.
