Melted alternator wiring would short out the car and not keep it running. If the O2 circuilt was shorted out it's possible you fried the ECU. I know for a fact a short circuit of the rear O2 circuit will fry the board. Are you running any type of engine management?
a friend of mine said it might be the ECU, but i wasn't sure. the 02 sensor i was referring to is the primary one that stretches from around the radiator hose, across the turbo manifold, and into the housing. the heat proof material/tube that covers the o2 wiring was pushed back somehow and the wires had a fight with a scalding hot manifold. no engine management, although the previous owner used dsmlink and an safc at one point.
