weavil, you could also say that road racing is a waste of tires as well or that drag racing is a waste of tire/engine etc. not saying you gotta love drifting. just saying that every type of "racing" has its own appeal and shit. you don't gotta hate it, just respect it 
I'm not hating on it I think drifting competitions are fun to watch, but it's about as useful as a big smokey burnout. In other words, 99% of the time it's done it's a waste of tire (how many times have we seen some guy "heat" his normal everyday street tires for no particular reason?).
