What is wrong with hybrids? The auto industry is going towards hybrids and alternative fuels. Your foolish to think we would continue using cars with 2000 technology a decade later. This dosn't mean you can't drive non-hybrids though.
No, that would not make a monopoly. It would stimulate our economy by buying domestic goods. If you havn't noticed, the US economy is in terrible shape.
