There are only a handful of actually knowledgeable folks around here and pretty much any Toyota fan is little more than a 4 cylinder fanboy who is going to tell you some gutless 4 cylinder is more powerful regardless of the facts.
If you really want to do this I’d suggest getting a n/a car. They are cheaper and let’s be honest; you are going to want to upgrade things like the brakes anyway.
Ebay is a great place to find one with a blown engine because there is forever some stupid kid doing something to their car to destroy the engine.
If you want to see a cool site check out www.hybridz.org.
It’s primarily a Z car engine swap site but people have other cars such as RX-7s for example. These guys actually do WORK on cars using parts that weren’t ordered from Nopi.
and what? any domestic guy is gonna tell you to do a V8 swap? tell you what: you need to think about lots and lots of things such as material fatigue. you need to consider the driveability, the actual worth of what you're doing. by that, i mean, is it worth it to make it so that if you have to change spark plugs you have to drop the engine down? you need to get your head out of your ass when it comes to bigger is better theory. it's called efficiency. it's why there are still little 4 cylinder "fanboys" that can and do blow V8 powered cars away. it's how Toyota built a 2.1L I4 that was able to produce a reliable 750-800whp. also, the fiero was another fine product which was made of parts bin extras...hmmm.....kinda like the reliant k...
and he wouldn't be the first to try 'other' engines into an MR2.
