It started out as a quick way to gain clearance in an engine swapped Honda. Then it became a style thing because it made people think you had an engine swap. When it was discovered that you in fact do not have an engine swap and your hood is propped up in the back anyway, the excuse was "heat dissipation"..... which is bullshit.
