Re: Langley Speedway's Wacky Wednesday
I am the Langley Speedway Videographer and the person who has been making the Wacky Wednesday videos. I figured I'd answer some of the questions in the past few posts.
The reasons for why I do anything are usually pretty simple.
My job at Langley is to record the Saturday night races at the track and make DVDs to be sold at the track. They don't pay me to come out there on Wednesday nights, so I usually just go out there to mess around with my camera and have some fun.
The Time Attack portion of the event is my favorite because people tend to push their cars a bit harder than they do during the drag racing segment, or so it appears to me. So I usually record most of the Time Attack. However, the Mini DV tapes my camera uses can get expensive when you're buying them every week, so I just use any extra space left on the tapes from the previous Saturday, and I'll usually just record whatever I feel will be interesting at the time. At the conclusion of the Time Attack, or burnouts if they have them, I'll go sit the stands with some friends and just watch the majority of the drag racing. And near the end of the night I'll go up to the spotters stand and record whichever races I think might be exciting.
Also, there is no issue with my camera and loud sounds, if it can record 20+ Late Models roaring past on a Saturday night I think it can handle anything out there on Wednesday night just fine. And Local racing is all about advertising, so there's no issue there either.
The reason that the 8/5 and 8/19 videos featured only video from the Time Attack and burnouts is because on 8/5 it got rained out before Time Attack ended and on 8/19 there were some light showers early on during the drag racing and instead of hanging around and risking getting my camera wet, I decided to go home and watch the NASCAR Truck Series race from Bristol on TV.
As I said before, I just do the Wacky Wednesday videos for fun so the highlight videos consist of whatever I felt was interesting when I was editing it.
