Raising the wheel arch, is specifically what a radiused fender is. There seems to be a lot of confusion/misuse of this term lately. It has nothing to with flares or wider tires/wider wheels/low offsets etc.

to accept larger tires was the definition. That may have been included in the link I posted, but my definition was not that narrow. I said reshaping a fender. I should have gone further, apparently, and indicated that it means to make the arch more round. Usually it is to raise the arch, but -most literally- it is changing the radius of arch, which creates a broader,taller opening. I did indicate my belief that clearing big tires was the reason it was done on the posted race cars. the wheel arch on those cars was raised, but it was also widened.
