Rule of thumb is to try to keep the tire width within 4" of wheel width. Obviously it is going to vary by the tire height too. With a 35x15.50 I would recommend at least a 10" wide wheel.

Keep in mind the narrower you go the more prone you are to blowing a bead and just because other people have been fine running a narrower wheel doesn't mean you will be.
