If it was you just skimping to get more parts in your car, then I can understand because I would have probably did the same, but that is how the balls rolls I guess. Karma so to speak. Sorry to say but that is somewhat of a personal responsibility issue. I think everybody can at least agree with me on that, if not you're using your heart and not your brain. Umm and yeah I just totalled my Impreza and it wasn't a crappy car by any means. Alarms are not meant to be stop alls for thieves because like you said they will get it if they want it. Deterences and common street smarts will keep your ride safe MOST of the time. That sucks though and I hope they find whoever did it, to be honest I'm really suprised the theft rate down here isn't real high seeing that all the pigs are on 64 speed trapping everybody and writing ticketts. Maybe this is the start of a bad trend....
Oh yeah this isn't a personal attack at all, just stating MY opinion on what I saw from tv and read. Good luck with your search though, knowing what they do in New York, your car is probably chopped up or in the East River after a joyride.
Maybe I'm wrong here, but it sounds like he put more money into the mods than he paid for the car. Insurance usually doesn't cover mods on a car, so even if he had full coverage he wouldn't get back half of what he put into it. Having only liability on a something like a new BMW is stupid, but this an older car. Having full coverage would have helped, but it would only pay for a stock Civic. What's one from that year worth now? $4000 or so?
