My Subaru's radio came with a satellite option, it just wasn't installed on the one I was looking at. I asked them about the installation of the module and they specified it would only be the antenna visible for roughly 3 inches up the passenger side of my windshield. However, I opted to go with a satellite ready headunit as they wanted over $500 for the module and installation.
Soooo what did you end up doing for an antenna for the satellite-ready head unit? I'm looking at head units but am hung on the idea of running a cable out of a window/trunk seal somewhere. I think I'm going to research the frequency range and see if putting the antenna under the plastic windshield wiper cowl will cause problems with signal attenuation. I dunno though, people talk about heavy overhead foliage causing signal problems so I'm not sure if that will work.
There apparently used to be a few through-glass antennas on the market but they don't seem to be produced any longer, probably because of some change in the satellite receivers I'd imagine. I can't imagine that I'm the only person looking for a solution that
doesn't require cables to be run outside of the car.

Satellite radio is definitely outside of my realm of expertise.
