yes, you have to replace the whole master cylinder unit if it is bad, if you dont see fluid coming from above your clutch pedal, leaking inside the car on the firewall/floorboard, or coming out by the reservoior hose in the engine bay then it prolly isnt the master cylinder, and the master cylinder is what pushes the fluid to the slave cylinder which in turn moves your throwout fork...check out your slave cylinder if you dont see your master cylinder leaking, what is going on in the first place?.....did you just go to the dealership and they said you need a new master cylinder, what made you go there and ask.........
