Well first it was HOT there. I did not really show any I just went strait to the pits and walked around. Both the GM and Mopar guys were they’re racing which was nice. I was not meant to run though. If I could have gotten the shifting worked out I would have been in the mid 13’s. My first run I went up to the line and rolled out as did the guy I was racing. So I set the lights again and rolled out again so on the third try I put the emergency brake on as the tree started to fall I dropped the brake but only half way… At the top of first gear I managed to get the brake off and proceeded to have a hard time getting into 2nd. All that and I still ran a 14.1 After that every run I had a hard time getting into one gear or another. So I decided to let it cool down and go back during the next open session.
On the 2nd session I made my first run 2nd gear would not go in at first then I went to shift into 4th and miss shifted into 2nd. I pegged the tack and hit 8000 rpms. I took it out of gear and left of the gas fast and coasted across the line and still managed a 14.8. In a fit of rage I did not stop at the pits just kept going back around to the staging lanes. Got up to the line and the line guy told me to back off the line and go back to pits because I was leaking fluid. I went back to the pits and my radiator cap had partially popped off so I was done for the day. I figured I had bent a valve, had valve float or a head gasket, but I filled it up with fluid and it ran fine, idled fine and there is no oil in the coolant.
I had heard complaints from others that the Amsoil ATF was to slippery and caused missed shifts but I figured it was a driver problems not the fluid but I have never missed shifts before the fluid so it has to be that.
I am very impressed with this engine. To take the beating I put on it and still be in fine shape is amazing to me. I am going to have Joey run a compression check on it to make sure that every thing is fine but from what I can tell it’s still running like a champ.
