Default Re: How do you install hood pins???

Installing the hood pins:

First off, take the 6 tiny screws that came with your sparco hood pins and throw them in the garbage. They are not stainless steel. They will rust. Go to home depot and buy the stainless versions.

All 3/S's have hood pin mounting holes predrilled into the chassis. Not sure about your platform, but I imagine you should have them. With the hood open, or off the car, look at the main beam that runs across the car (behind the headlights - along the radiator). There are two holes on that beam directly behind the headlights and slightly towards the center of the car.

Install the hood pin posts there.
Bolt the hood to your hinges
put double-sided stcky tape on the top of your hood pin posts
gently close the hood until the sticky tape catches the hood. This is where you will drill the holes in your hood for the posts.

Do NOT drill through cf unless you have masking tape over both sides of your drilling surface. This prevents cracking of the gel coating. Drill through the hood with a small bit at first, working your way up to the size of the post holes in the hood pin latch side.

Make sure the hood opens and closes easily with the posts coming through your newly drilled holes.

Close the hood
Latch the pins to the posts
Screw in your stainless screws to secure the latch side to the hood.

You can adjust the hieght of the posts by screwing them into or out of the chassis. A perfect hieght allows the hood to be latched and not shift inside the latch holes on the top of the posts. You want a LITTLE bit of pressure from the latch to the post.

It is much easier to describe in person. Hope that helped....

EDIT: No matter how strong your latch is, I highly advise doing this. $25 dollars can save you $400. Trust me... my latch failed to close, it only took one time to rip my old cf hood right off the car.

Better safe than sorry.
