i don't use them..it all depends on the company and the fit...if you have fittment issues then yes i would say use pins. if not then fck it. i have hit high speeds and traveled through rough on coming wind and nothing happend *knock on wood*. so i would say it depends on the hook and company.like a VIS hood= good quality so fitment isn't an issue. but and off brand company i would say would problly have fitment issues. that's just my .02
