So, looseness in the tip (the arm that moves) is OK. but if i hold that arm in teh up positionand then move the BOTTOM (where it anchors to the cover) and THAT moves, then its bad?
Additionallly, when moving the arm alongs its range of motion, your saying that looseness is OK but if it gets snagged anywere, THATs bad?
Just trying to clarify.

I'm still on campus - but this is what the guy on advrider said when i inquired as to what he meant by slop.
Is that what you meant? Or were you eluding to something different?
Thanks!
Yes, loosenes. Not horizontal as in sliding back and forth on the shaft (although that could be a problem if excessive) but vertical, up and down movement. I've had to replace the main rocker shafts before because of excessive wear due to overheating and lack of oil.

yea mexico was mucho necessito.
but between my break and this thread I'm gaining a lot more motivation to work on my bike.
I've already drained the oil yanked the oil pan and (after finding some metal chunks) cleaned and polished it to a mirror finish.
Next step is to lay the bike down and remove the motor.

Get on that shit. Its so much fun once you get into it. Admittedly, it is also so very frustrating. But come on! You got some motivation now, get your shit goin!

I just went and checked it some more:
-There is NO horizontal sliding of the sub-rocker along whatever tube its mounted on.
-There is NO play in the connection where the subrocker is mounted.
-There is, as mentioned, very loose movement alongs it natural range of motion.
-The other three subrockers will not move unless repositioned manually.
I'm feeling less nervous now
