Need fender painted - shop recommendations?

Re: Need fender painted - shop recommendations?
2. Doing something right is never cheap
3. You probably paid atleast 30k for the z06, why is $1500 such an issue?
4. Why don't you just claim it on insurance? a "not at fault" accident won't add any insurance points Then you don't have to worry about your z06 looking like a honda that was painted in someones garage.
If your unwilling to pay $1500 for body work, I can't imagine you modding that z06 very much. Ever hear of the vette tax?

Re: Need fender painted - shop recommendations?
If you owned a Z06, would you pay $1,500 to get ONE FENDER painted? Considering the fender is about 1/11th (2 fenders, 1 hood, 1 front bumper, 1 rear bumper, 2 doors, 2 quarter panels, 1 trunk, 1 roof) the total paint area of the car, painting the whole car at that place would cost around $16,500. That's more than 1/2 the cost of a Z06. Obviously, this shop is trying to rim him/her off. In my opinion, this is not an efficient use of resources based soley on "norms and expectations" of the car subculture ... 'Vette tax'. Since when does "owning Z06" makes it madatory for reckless, illogical spending?
I would assume the cost would go down when talking about painting the whole car or any larger portion.
In reguards to the vette tax, take most prices for parts that are available for GTOs and Fbodies...then double them, you have the vette price.
Honestly, he should claim it on insurance and be done with it.

gettin' the fender painted, and blended professionally and correctly shouldnt cost you more then 6-700 at a HIGH end expensive shop.
process consists of removing the front bumper, the headlight. transferring all trim from the old fender to the new, installing the new fender, and de trimming the door. followed with painting the fender, and blending in the door. then re assemblying everything. then wet sanding and buffing.
any shop is going to charge you for every little thing they do, from taking off the bumper, to taking the door panel off to take off a door handle. but the job shouldn't cost you anywhere near 1500.
autobody and paint you get what you pay for ..if you try to cheap it, you get what you pay for. and when you go to shops, ask them what kind of paint they use. basf and ppg are okay ..but the best results will come with shops that use dupont chroma paint. whether its chromabase or chromapremier.
