a lil off topic but apparently chirpping gears is illegal too....or at least my boy got a ticket for it...i think it was "loss of traction"...i forget, twas a crazy night.

 

Excessive acceleration only applies to motorcycles. To get you on a similar charge, police will list it as either a noise violation, show of excessive force, or the hardest to prove -- reckless driving (must prove that you were not in control).

Local ordinances, like those in VA Beach and Northern VA allow for ticketing excessive acceleration, but the law on the books statewide only applies to motorcycles.

 

It's call 'Exhibition of speed'. Bikers get it all of the time and some car people do too.

 

I'd think theyd just hit you for reckless..
