Definitely upgrade the brakes. That is one part you don't want to fail.

Last even I ran with the s2000 I had OEM pads and they felt fine for the first session but just got worse and worse as the day went on and I started to lose confidence in their ability to stop me like I wanted. This time out I had some HP+ pads and those were a huge improvement and were consistent all day long.

Maybe there were too many factors on top of me never using tires like those? Like going from light weight 16x7 +45 215-45-16 to heavy stock 15x6 +50

I never felt so embarrassed, but I guess it's whatever. It killed my confidence even until now.
What tire pressures did you start them at? Did you check them again after coming off track?

Only way to wear them down bad that quickly is a lot of wheel spin...going to the small wheel and tire changes your ratios which the car would be more prone to that...

On a cold track with cold tires, they dont come up to full temp for a few laps....add in some offs and people kicking dirt and its going to be slippery. They dont make noise either like street tires, so i imagine when the car came from under you it was a surprise.

None the less i don't have any recommendation for tires for out there, everyone I've spoke to about the course says its different every lap and all the cars are oversteering because of it.

^You had hoosiers on the car right? I've never driven on them but I'm pretty sure they need far less tire pressure. Like probably low-mid 30s hot.

Yeah.

I was told the same before, but since I was frustrated I just didn't bother to give it a 2nd shot. Anyone have any idea how many laps and at what pace these should be warmed up by? I have some Toyos on the side I might just use instead. Due to my little (none really) knowledge of these tires like these, for all I know the procedure to drive on them may be the same.

The hoosiers in front resulted in originally having the 2 grooves, to being completely smooth with cracks and holes in them.

I imagine the rocks tear them up pretty bad. The first grip session was good but by the end of the day the track wasn't getting cleaned off and there were rocks and dirt everywhere.

I always run Hoosier r6's on my car ( I was the white 4 door Si with all the blue painter's tape). My tire pressures are always 33F, 34R and it takes about two laps to get to ideal temps at Driftwater.

Also, my temps never got that high hot, so I think you pushed them too hard, too soon. These tires handle like absolute shit cold, just keep that in mind.

+1

I start them on my miata at 31/30....aiming for a hot 38psi coming off track. They are very pressure sensitive.

Meh, you just need to be patient with them. When I first got Hoosiers, I pushed the before they were warm and buy the time they got sticky, I had to pull off the track because my damn brakes were so faded/hot. It's like boiling water, it just takes time- you can't speed it along no matter what. This is why I get so angry making Mac' and Cheese.
