Ya, it sure looks like you have plenty of room between your master cyl. and the head for it to be a 351. My friends windsor fox, barely can fit his 2.5" down pipe in that space on his car.

I had said it was a Edelbrock Performer intake. If it is a 302, I wish I had kept my crank, rods, and pistons I had.

Gonna need a username change maybe?

What would cause someone to swap a 85 5.0(possibly 5.0 HO since car was a GT) out and put in a 91 5.0? Did they make 302's carb'ed in 91?
If it was a EFI motor in 91, why bother switching it to carb? The person I got the car from isn't smart enough to even comprehend a possible advantage of carb vs EFI in a V8 street car. yeah 86 they went EFI so if this is a 302, then it came out of something other than a mustang, with non-mustang motor mounts. Find me a ford vehicle in 91 that came with a 302 carb'ed stock and I'll admit its a 302.

So it's apparent you don't know much about Mustangs.

The '91 would have forged pistons and a roller cam vs. shitty pistons and shitty hydraulic cam that came in the '85.

And once you take the upper/lower intake off any fuel injected 5.0, you bolt on a carb'd intake and you're done. Some have the removeable plate that you can bolt in a mechanical fuel pump, while others just run an eletric one.

It really isn't that hard at all.

edit: I had a '84 GT that I put a '92 block in with a RPM intake, Holley 650, and Edlebrock's version of an E cam. And a '83 that used the same block with a Victor Jr. intake, Holley 750, and a beast custom grind roller cam. It's just a better platform than the older 5.0's to start with because of the aftermarket availability.

If the 85GT had a 302 HO though, then what would have made the 91 302 better? Didn't the HO come with a roller cam?

I know what it takes to convert it to EFI, but if theres no logic to the conversion then I can't believe it would have been done.

I more than adequately understand the differences and pros/cons of EFI and carb depending on application. I just dont see the logic behind the steps that would have been taken to get a 91 302 into the 85GT.

And the started converting 302s to EFI in 1980 with lincolns, so 11 years later, unless they were in a F or E series, why would they still produce carb'd 302s from the factory?

A carb swap is cake work on a 5.0.. IF it is a 91 engine whoever swapped it in the 86 put a intake/carb on it, because of the fuel system and wiring(makes it easier).. What makes you think this motor is a 91?? The casting number on the heads of any 302 85-96 should be "E7xx". Have YOU had the intake off this motor?

I read the cast number on the back of the block, its been awhile but I remember whatever the first 2 digits(like F1 maybe) equals 1991. I looked all that up way back in the day. I've never pulled the intake off.

but doesn't a 302 HO have a roller cam anyways? and E5 heads, so does a 91 302 only have better heads?

Where exactly is the cast number on the heads? Do I have to remove the intake to get to it?
