At least, no matter how shitty your life seems, the Droid comes out Friday...
That's what's allowing me to get up every morning and live my shitty life day by day. Fuck our lives!?!

School isn't the answer necessarily. Does it play a role in today's society? Yes but it isn't everything. The Federal government considers 3 years on a job the same as 4 years in college. I know people with Master's who are working 10-12 per hour and struggling to pay back tuition loans. It's also about luck and making your own fortune however "The good ole boy" system does come in to play. Look at a majority of CEO's, Board Members, VP's, etc. They're part of a "entourage". It's who you know and who you blow.
Unfortunately in life everyone has high hopes and dreams but a majority are set to settle for mediocrity and obscurity.
The automotive field isn't a great idea as unless you own a shop you're not going to make great money. Motorcycle racing, car racing, and so on are seeing cut backs because sponsors don't have the revenue to throw into it like they did even a year ago.
You're not going to go from 1 day having a shitty life to next being a performance engine specialist. It takes years to learn and master. With Fuel injection being around now you need to know computers as well. The equipment to do all of this is quite expensive for the mechanical and electrical side of engines.
To be honest I don't have the time or patience to give you a full detailed answer but if we ever meet up at a meet feel free to ask me anything like this. I'm not master but might be able to help some.
Those schools are not the answer from what I've seen and heard. You may want to ask Joey (FC735) about the full breakdown of the car and school aspect as it relates to engines/auto. He's a bit hard nosed but he knows his shit and can give you a run down.

on a less depressing note, i need some advice from you older guys...
Im going nowhere with my life at a very high rate of speed. i HATE school with an extreme passion, but i cant just drop out. When i think about what i want to do with my life, cars is always the answer...but i dont want to just turn wrenches all day in some bullshit garage, then come home and not want to work on my own car...i want to build performance vehicles/motors and i also want to paint cars/bikes. I have a couple friends who went to National Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN, one of which is currently employed at a bodyshop now that he graduated from their collision repair program. I looked into their programs, and they offer a high performance program that last 13 months, and i can take a specialty course for an extra 5-8 months.
I got a phone call from a guy that works for the school and he gave me a basic rundown of how everything works, told me which programs were highest in demand job wise and so on and so forth. well it seems that tuition will be jumping up after january, and if i enroll now i will be able to take advantage of the previous tuition costs. This guy was really persistant in trying to send me an application and set up an interview with my parents and I via telephone. Im waiting on some brochures and dvd/cd-roms to show my parents, but in the mean time, i want to hear what you guys think. have yall heard anything good/bad about NADC? do you think its worth the 20 grand ill spend to go there? or should i look at another school?
