Be forewarned of those responding with "Fuck off" and the "I like long walks on the beach..."
In drag racing, you don't necessarily have to be the fastest. Enter bracket racing where consistency wins. Slower cars and automatic transmissions are great for this type of racing.

Yeah, I have always thought my car was slow since I bought. I mean its a LX for gosh sakes. But hopefully one day I can either make it a full blown race car or maybe a show car, havne't decided what is more efficient for me to do.

Show car is cheaper. Take pride in what you have. There will always be someone faster than you, and racing speed can be very addictive.
Don't make the mistake others have and make your only vehicle a "full-blown" racecar, wait until you have something to drive to work after your car breaks on the weekends at the track.
I blew apart my stock engine while road racing, then bought a beater truck that could tow it before building it back up with a new engine. Mortgages have taken current priority, however. My bank owns me, literally.

Modding a car for speed can be fun, even when you break several hundred dollars worth of parts and have to spend hours on end rebuilding and replacing the parts you broke. Or when you have a lean/rich condition that you have no idea on how to fix, those are fun too.
