Default Honda Motor Swap Useful Information

Something that I found that was interesting for all you Honda Motor Swap Lovers out there.

Ok, I've noticed a lot of people asking what engines will fit in their car and what engines have what stats.....so here they are and some info on the bottom about performing swaps.

B18c5:

200hp@8000 rpm
134ft.lbs@7500 rpm

B16b:

185hp@7800 rpm
118 ft.lbs@7500 rpm

B16a1:

160hp@7600 rpm
111ft.lbs@7300 rpm

B16a2:

170hp@7800 rpm
115 ft.lbs@7300 rpm

B18c1:

170hp@8000 rpm
134 ft.lbs@7500 rpm

H22a1:

190hp@6800 rpm
151 ft.lbs@5500 rpm

H22a7:

220hp@7200 rpm
163 ft.lbs@6700 rpm

F20B:

200hp@7200 rpm
145 ft.lbs@6600 rpm

As a general rule the B series goes into Civics/Integras and the larger engines being the H and F series go into the Accords/Preludes. You -CAN NOT- put the B series engines into an Accord or Prelude. You would ultimately make your car go slower. The B series engines have such low torque numbers your car wouldn't move You need the bigger displacement engines. I don't know about the F20c from the s2000, so I didn't include it. That engine will run you like almost 10,000 dollars and its not a common swap so the labor will be really expensive, not to mention its RWD and all of your Hondas are FWD.

Now lets say you want to put an H or F series engine into your Civic or Integra? Is that a problem? Well no and yes. If you want a drag car then there is no comparison. The high hp and tq numbers will make your light civic and teggy quick. However if you plan on keeping it as a daily driver you will want to think about the weight distribution of your car now. Your handling will be shot, especially in the Civic. To correct this you will need some good suspension work. Another way to help correct this is swapping out parts of the big engines with forged alluminum pieces. That can get expensive but is necessary if you want a more balanced car.

Ok, now lets talk about Hybrid motors. These can get complicated but can be really fun and great projects. To do these you should be -POSITIVE- you have the right parts. It can be a very smooth process if you get it done right. I have never done one myself and couldn't tell you how its done but here is what you'll need to do one. This list should be pretty complete but anyone is free to add something that I forgot.........

Head: Any Honda B series Vtec head, B16a/B18c. B16a2 flows the best from what I hear.
Block: Any Honda B series Non-Vtec block. B18a or b/B20. B20 is from a CRV
Any non-vtec B series head gasket
B-series vtec - water pump, timing belt, oil pump

Ok, you've got all your parts and are now looking for a shop to put it into your baby. Well, when choosing a shop the best thing you can do is go by word of mouth. Talk to your friends and see where they got their swaps done. Then go talk to the shop first, get to know them before you turn over your keys. I had the advantage of having a friend who had his own shop so it was an easy choice for me. Don't look just for the cheapest place, look for the place that guarantees their work and is known to do some quality work. Talk to them and schedule a time when they can look at your car and remember -ALWAYS- get an estimate before you start anything. If your car is in the shop and they just keep heapin on the cost and you run out of money thats no good.

Well congratulations you now have a swapped Honda and are ready to tackle the drag strip or the road track. Some things to consider though is that your local Honda dealership will complain about working on a swapped car. Even if its a engine that is of USDM spec. Some may be different than others but as a general rule you should always have a shop to do it incase the dealership won't. Anyways, thats all I can think of at the moment. I hope it helped and please refer to this before asking questions about swaps. Thanks

wow. that guy is fucking ignorant. yeah, the H swap into your civic will kill the handling because the motor weighs a grand total of about 40 lbs more than a b16.

That list you have is bullshit .... there is no such thing as a b16a1.
. there are 4 diff JDM b16's ... 3 diff b16a and one b16b

b16a Sir 1
obd0
160 hp
111 trq

b16a Xsi
92-93 teg obd1
170 hp
113 trq

b16a Sir 2
obd1
170 hp
113 trq

b16b ek type r
obd 2
185 hp
117 trq

The usdm b16 for obd1 and obd2 is only 160 hp , 111 trq
