pr3 ecu ???
I recently bought a hatch with a pr3 ecu and was wondering what i could plug right up to replace that if i were to take it out, the computer has been wired into the car it seems so im sure the harness is not stock but any help would be appreciated.
Do you know if it's an OBD1 or OBD0 ECU? OBD1 has 3 gray plugs, and OBD0 has one black plug and one green (or natural nylon color)... There were PR3 ECUs in both OBD generations, so finding out which one you have is the first step. By the way, why do you want to replace it? That's a great ECU, it's the JDM B16A ECU, and a nice find..
so this ecu is good then, i dont know anything about it. i jsut thought that 6k vtec engagment was a bit high. i guess vtec controller and keep this in will be good?
Stock is almost 6k, I don't remember the exact number.. If you've got a B16, keep it. If you want to change the vtec rpm, get the ECU chipped. The ECU switches to a seperate set of fuel and ignition maps when vtec engages, so if you use a vtec controller to change the vtec rpm (lower), the ECU will be on the wrong set of maps when vtec engages. So if you have your heart set on using a vtec controller, make sure you also add fuel when you engage vtec or you'll have a lean condition when vtec engages. Just a warning.
i dunno if it has that speed limit on it, ive had it at 120 and it was still goin. but i dunno. who makes a good chip for that. im just running basic bolt ons. not plannin on turbo or anyithng like that. and about how much is it to install?
If you'd had it over 120, it may already be chipped. Or your speedo sucks.
Don't buy some random chip, get someone to make a program for it. The installation is fairly cheap, i used to charge $65 for socketing and a custom program but I don't have time to mess with much of that any more. There are local people who can help you out with that though. How easy is is to make a custom program depends on whether it's an OBD0 or OBD1 PR3 though, the OBD1 PW0 and PR3 are cousins, and both are bastard children, but the OBD1 PR3 is pretty much identical to the US P30s from del sols, etc.
