really?!my Quicktime(and all the other size QTs i've used)2.5" actually has an opening of about 2".the 3" model has about a 2.5" opening.
i've been trying to find a "sliding door" style cutout to avoid some of the the problems associated with the butterfly valve type cutouts.i've seen people talk about this kind of cutout, but can't find any good info.when i make a new downpipe,i want something that has a true 3" opening, and functions beter than what i have now.

There are a few big turbo guys on VWvortex with the style cutout you're talking about, Chris. I'll see what I can find out.

I assume you want it to be electronically controlled, right? I think one of the guys fabs them himself.

yes, electronically controlled.most of the butterfly style valves develop leaks over time, don't stay open/closed,and the valve itself presents somewhat of a restriction when open since it's still in the path of flow.
a friend had a magazine about a year ago that he said had a small ad for the style i want.he never could find it again though to get the info.my searches on the web haven't really turned up anything.
man,it'd be awesome if you found where to get these!
thanks

I have seen those sliding door ones somewhere, but they are crazy expensive..

scroll down to the bottom to see the 3" model.. what he uses is an adapter piece that goes in between his cutout and your 3" flange

For what it's worth, the QT cutout downpipes made for WRX's are known for leaking...

My Qtec didn't seal 100% either. I eventually got rid and went back to full 3". But now after 2 exhaust tickets in one summer, I'm looking at some other options.

i know, that's why i want to find a nice cutout so badly.it's nice having a stock sounding, stock looking 2" muffler to cruise around on,but be able to open the cutout and have no restriction at all.
