Absolutely. I'm an electrician, this is absolutely right. Mixing the gauge is unsafe and could cause a fire.

mine is having the same problem, but the amp is not over heating. It turns on for maybe a millisecond, then just turns back off. hellpp!!

What's the fuse rating on the amp?

Honestly, if you're running a single amp, you *should* be fine on an 8awg wire, unless you're pulling some serious current.

Make sure you've got a good clean ground going to the chasis, all the teminals and connections are clean, etc.

greekfreak - might be something with the remote turn-on wiring from the HU to the amp. That sounds like its sending a pluse instead of a constant 12vdc.

sounds like a short or a bad ground. check your fuses too

it could be a bad ground also man but yea usually its cause your amp has a protect on it and its stoping you from blowing your subs
