A shop that won't rob me?
Wow, several shops said too much fabrication, yet when I asked what needed to be done that won't answer.
It seems to me this job involves:
Remove 2 transmissions
install one transmission.
remove 2 rear axles with springs attached
install 1 rear axle
Remove drive shafts in 2 vehicles
install drive shafts in one vehicle
cut hole in new vehicle floor for 4wd shifter
It just seems easy to me, is there something I'm missing or are places like Production Offroad really looking to screw over potential customers that much?

It sounds like more of a hassle than it is worth. Without seeing the two vans then it is hard to tell what all is needed but I am sure there is a good bit of fabrication needed to support the front axle. Why not just find another 4x4 van?
After a lot of shop searching I've decided to give up on this idea. The prices seemed to be totaling around $6k for the van, $3k for the 4x4 donor van and $3k for the swap. $12k for a 1998 4x4 Savana isn't bad, but it isn't great either.
I have my back up plan, a 1979 Ford E250 Quigley 4x4. It's full of rust, but only $1200. I can enjoy it and gradually seek out someone that can do the body work (or a body swap?) for a reasonable price. If all else fails I can get my brother (@ $30/hr) to do it in a year when I move again.

Theres one for sale on Chesapeake Blvd in Norfolk. It's not mine, I just see it sitting out there in the guys yard with a for sale sign in the window. I think it's a chevy.
A 4x4 van for sale? Do you remember what year or what year range? I'll check it out Friday- where abouts on Chesapeake blvd?
