Virginia has to have one of the best economies in the country with all this revenue coming in. Michigan is currently 50th in the nation for economy. If we had shit like this, we could easily rocket up 30-35 spots or so.

We should all meet up and cruise the interstate 54mph in every lane.

Discuss.

It has to be 55 in order to not get hit with "Impeding the flow of traffic."

Actually IIRC you can go as slow as 10 under the limit before you are considered obstructing the flow of traffic.

As long as you are in the far right lane. Slower moving vehicles must stay right, though it is not often enforced.

Isn't it unconstitutional to fine excessively?

4th amendment?

The enforcement projects resulted in more than 26,000 traffic summonses and arrests being made between the two heavily-traveled corridors.

26000 times minimum of $100 bucks each equals damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!! 2.6 million the state made during just four of these events in one year. Yet they can't use that money to give teachers a decent raise, instead it goes to fund more of these events.

Out of the 20 people who died, 5 weren't belted in, which is Darwin at it's finest. So 15 people died in total. Let's assume low and say 100,000 people were on the road. That is .00015 of a percent dying out there. More people are killed by coconuts falling from trees. More were killed at Va Tech, yet the cops didn't saturate every campus in the state to prevent more tragedies.

So what gives?
Safety is just a thin guise for money. Let's take the revenue out of the safety equation and see how willing the officer's bosses are to send them out in force. How would you enforce laws without financial penalties?? Easy. Community service. You violate traffic laws, you spend 40 hours feeding the homeless, cleaning the streets, covering graffiti, fixing potholes, helping build low income housing. This would solve most of the states real problems like the hundreds of homeless or poor people dying from starvation or lack of adequate shelter.

With free labor more could ever be accomplished than just with revenue that disappears into huge budgets without oversight. Call it pie in the sky dreaming but I would sacrifice that .00015 of a percent to save hundreds and make life worth fucking living for everyone, not just the elite.

Not true.
The minimum speed limit on an interstate highway in VA is 45 MPH. In fact I believe that is mandated by DOT on any interstate in the country.
