Turbo Single-Cam
Well I was thinking about doing a lil work to the engine with a good turbo kit. Idont wanna b like alot of people and only boosting 6-8psi.So is there ne particular kit that is good, or should I just piece together one myself. And should I get ne new internals, like pistons or cams or anything. Well thanx hatchman for the help and for also agreeing with me bout my engine.
Take your own advice...
1) Yes there is.
2) Not all of them, the obd1 JDM ZC is a sohc vtec.
3) True, a stock tune will not work, but 15psi is definately attainable on stock internals. I can prove it if you would like. I run 16-17 psi on 93 octane, and 23 psi on 110 octane. Stock internals with minor headwork. (hasnt blown up yet)
4) Along with the JDM ZC, and the D16y8. The others are either vtec-e or non vtec period.
5) Please do...

stock d16z6 on 10lbs. should be more than enough for you.
im making just over 200 hp/ 186ft lbs with a chipped non-vtec ecu.
nothing special, just a tune, clutch, injectors, and exhaust.
you'll love it.

If you're saying you have vtec, you might as well get that working properly first.
That engine is better than the y8. They are notorious for oil pump issues.
do lots of reading about turboing it before you do. turbod16.com, homemadeturbo.com, d-series.org. The information is already there. Read, and your questions will be answered.
here's a good post regarding reliability.

Ok here we go, There is a SINGLE CAM ZC VTEC. its a D16 Replacement motor. if you know your hondas you will know that all Jap Spec D series engines are ZC's
Ok who cares what motor is what.
I have heard of people running a 75 shot and 22 pounds on a single cam, Chris and gene at tuners edge did it on an auto and the bitch moved.
But to answer your question, honestly the best motor (single cam) to boost is a y7 bottom end, they have flat top pistons decent compression and a strong bottom end. But your motor is pretty decent to boost and will make pretty nice power. DOHC ZC is an awesome motor to boost! They do sooooo damn good boosted and thats when they really open up.
I would keep the motor you have now and when/if that motor goes get a DOHC ZC.
Your car will run fine on about 7 pounds with stock tune long enough to get it to a shop, don't take it high in the rpms and turn back your distributor.
