I've also got 4:10 gears, more hp/tq, and a lighter car (more than likely) than you, that might explain some of it.

 

I dunno about a lighter car, but everything else yeah. Foxes are generally a hundred pounds or so lighter than even the lightest SN95.

Maybe that has something to do with it. Aren't R32s AWD, though? As I said earlier, I've only ever heard negative things about them when they've been equipped on Volkswagen R32s. I've had them on my cars for years and my experience with them has been pleasant. They offer great dry traction, probably the best wet traction on the market, ride quiet and corner nicely. Their biggest downfall is that they're not cheap.

The Azenis are better in the dry, but for what you gain over the GS-D3 in dry weather, you lose ten times that in the wet. I wouldn't trust an Azenis in the rain any further than I could throw one.

I was actually looking at the wear bar. And you're right, the STi is a hard car on tires.

I wish I had good luck with them. They drove just fine other than the known problem.

It was all the tires. Not just the front. My first blister was actually on the rear.

R32s are AWD - Haldex specifically.

I'll probabaly be switching to 255/40-17 RT-615s next time. I think I'm going to order some 17" wheels.

 

RE-01Rs are a little too soft for what I need, I don't want them to be totally done in less than 10k. The RE-01R prices I've been seeing in my size are around $225 each, the Direzza StarSpecs are around $50 cheaper each. Do you have a special tire hookup, or just really small tires?

 

Haldex systems aren't really AWD, they just have a locking center coupler (can't really call it a diff). So AWD on demand only. They're really FWD most of the time. I don't really think you can call it AWD though, not in the traditional sense.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm guessing that R32s have tire wear characteristics of a FWD car under normal street driving because of that.

 

I'm running Yoko S. Drives. Worked well in the rain but, I also went from the stock 8" (which were worn) to 8.5" fronts and 10" rears so that alone would have helped a lot.

So far, for the money, they've been a great tire.

 

Yes and no. The traditional Haldex setup is as you described. Both Haldex and a few aftermarket (IIRC) companies market Haldex control boxes that change this. Some make it a permanent AWD system and others change the bias.

And yes, R32s wear tires just like any other VR6 GTI/Jetta in the front. Everything is different in the rear, so they have their own characteristics back there. But the R32/GSD3 fiasco took place both front and rear.
